Daudi Tingatinga last heir passed
With sadness we share the news that Daudi Tingatinga, the only son of Edward Saidi Tingatinga passed away April 12.
Daudi was still young, he didn’t even reach 50 years of age. He was buried at Msasani Mikorosheni in the same cemetery where his father is.
Daudi was only six years when his father passed away. He was encouraged by his relatives to continue painting in his father’s style.
Daudi had 2 children – Saidi (12 years) and Cecilia (15 years) who became orphans as even Daudi’s wife passed away many years ago. Daudi had one sister, Martina Tingatinga who is still alive and active in the Tinga Tinga movement.
This year we also lost the last living student of Edward Saidi Tingatinga, Omari Amonde. The beginnings of Tinga Tinga movement is slowly becoming a history as most of the artists who started the movement passed away. The only remaining artist who met E.S.Tingatinga and remembers well the days of birth of Tinga Tingamovement is Saidi Chilamboni.
Our deepest condolences go to Daudi children, living relatives and friends.
